UNITED WORLD MARTIAL ARTS

American Freestyle Karate (AFK) is blend of many popular styles of martial arts.  The most “effective” elements of styles such as Issyun Ryu or Kempo are strategically blended with other arts, including Master Klawon’s own free-form kata’s, to create one of the most well rounded martial arts programs  seen to date.  From basics to black belt, you will be instructed only by qualified adult black belt instructors.  Students will learn basic life skill that will help them be better prepared for school, and future martial arts training.

Little Ninja’s Ages 4-6

When you sign up a Karate Uniform (GI) is required to work out in these classes. You’re GI will be given to you and the proper patches to be attached. Please make sure your uniform is kept in good order and no modifications are done that do not meet with UWMA standards.   All students are required to work out in bare feet, no socks or shoes allowed.  This is not only in honor of long standing traditions within the martial arts, but is also in the students best interest.  Bare feet provide the best all around traction and allow the instructor to better view the students’ foot positioning, making it easier to instruct  the student. A black shirt is also required under your uniform, you may wear your own or purchase one from the Dojo.

Clothing

As training progresses, students will be required to purchase specific training equipment.   This will include such items as sparring gear and weapons. The instructor will notify the student what he/she is required to purchase at the time necessary. You may purchase some equipment from an outside source as long as it meets UWMA requirements.  But be reminded,  the pricing on the merchandise at UWMA is going to be your least expensive option. Weapons are very dangerous and ordering the wrong thing can hurt you and your partner, so any outside weapons, must be inspected by Master Klawon. Sparing gear can’t contain any other school logo or be in an unfit and unsafe condition.

Equipment

UWMA is proud of our 7000 Square Foot Dojo, one of the largest in Western New York!

Large Dojo Floor

UWMA has a fixed very LOW rate for each belt promotion.  This fee covers the  basic costs that UWMA infers, including the new belt, certificate and registration. It may also, contain other items such as weapons required for your new rank. Please speak to Master Klawon or his wife Linda about these fees.  Please note that these are promotion fees and not testing fees.  The dojo does not charge to test and it never will, that's are promise to you.  Please remember that we keep all costs down to a minimum so it’s of little concern, we want you to concentrate on your training and nothing else.

Promotions

The Dojo may be big, but we keep a traditional approach when it comes to training. All tests are done one on one.

Young Children and Karate.

The Little Ninjas Program is a detailed curriculum that focuses on improving pre-school age children's basic motor and listening skills. These skills will help them enter society with a more confident and enthusiastic outlook. They will become better students at school, better listeners at home and more ambitious towards the future. We believe the time between the ages of 3 and 6 are the most important years of a child's development. Our program will enhance positive development in a fun and motivating way. The Little Ninjas program will also prepare your child for the Lil Dragons program, ages 6-8.  The skills they are taught are composed of physical and mental benefits. The following are the skills with the benefits from participating in the Little Ninja class.

Focus

This skill will help your child's aim, listening skills and reaction skills. They will excel faster in any physical activities. Your child will also become a better listener and more focused student in school.

Teamwork

Teamwork is necessary for any young child to develop. The more confident your child is willing to work with others, the more he or she will accomplish. Your child will develop character, which will help him or her make new friends and become a better leader in life.

Control

Having control means making good decisions. Whether your child is handling a pet or handling a problem, he or she will to learn to make the right decisions. Control builds confidence.

Balance

This skill is crucial to develop at an early age. Your child is beginning to participate in many physical activities that are challenging like riding a two-wheel bicycle. Your child will develop good balance and a better posture.

Memory

Developing a good memory is exercise for your child's brain. The sooner your child exercises, the smarter he or she will become. Our drills are constantly helping your child think and make smart decisions.

Discipline

Our instructors use the Little Ninja drills to help create the vision that discipline is fun and rewarding. Your child will take pride in doing the right thing. Your child will also follow directions better.

Fitness

It is important for children to understand the importance of being healthy and physically fit. If your child does not burn off excess energy exercising how will he or she burn off all of that energy.

Co-ordination

Your child will learn left from right. They will become better physical participants is sports and activities. The better co-ordination your child has, the fewer injuries your child will sustain.

If the student does not earn a particular skill stripe, they may try and earn it on Fridays or at the end of each class. We want all Little Ninja’s to earn their skill stripes at the end of every skill lesson.  If the student does not earn all the stripes they will be encouraged to try harder and look towards the next testing cycle.  Please keep in mind that most children will not be able to achieve every skill stripe at the end of every skill lesson. This is a great way to teach your child that they must earn something by hard work and practice. This skill will carry over into their school work and life lessons.

The Choice Is Yours.

Do your own research on this topic and you will find many more benefits than are listed above.  A good Karate School is not just about punching and kicking.  It is a life changing experience.  The choice is yours.  There are many sports your child can participate in, but it is hard to find any other that has such a profound and lasting effect on their everyday lives.

The Little Ninja Curriculum Calendar is designed so that parents can follow along with the skill lessons being taught to their child.  We always encourage parent participation to better aid us in the development of your child.  Follow the calendar and try to practice at home or even in the car what each skill level means and why it’s important to them.  This shows your child that you are excited about what they do, and your excitement is their excitement.
